If your Mac repeatedly asks for your password, it may be due to incorrect settings in your Keychain. This guide shows you how to adjust those settings to reduce prompts.
Prerequisites:
- Ensure you know your current login password.
Steps
- Open Spotlight Search
- Click the magnifying glass in the menu bar or press
Command + Spacebar. - Type Keychain and select Keychain Access.
- Click the magnifying glass in the menu bar or press
- Select Keychain Access
- When prompted, choose Keychain Access (not Passwords).
- When prompted, choose Keychain Access (not Passwords).
- Change Login Keychain Settings
- In the left sidebar, find login.
- Right-click login and select Change Settings for Keychain "login".
Update Settings
- In the settings window, uncheck both options:
- Lock after X minutes of inactivity
- Lock when sleeping
- Confirm Changes
- Close the window. Your Mac should now prompt for your password less frequently.
